Yesterday, our Christian Brothers Falcons took on the West Park Panthers in a non-league matchup. Given both teams were winless heading into the game, they were playing extra hard. The Falcons were coming off of a tough week where they lost two games to McClatchy and Folsom, this game seemed to be a must win. They did in fact come in and do what they were supposed to do, win. With a final score of 3-0, the Falcons chalked their first win in the win column.
Dominating pitching performances are hard to come by in high school baseball, but Jake Tandy (‘22) did exactly that. Through five innings, Tandy struck out ten Panthers and only allowed one hit. When asked about his performance Tandy stated, “The arm felt really live today. I was hitting with all of my pitches, they couldn’t really touch it….so yeah, felt really good”. Pitching has been a bright spot for this team, averaging thirteen punch outs in each of their four games. Whereas on the offensive side, CB has been steadily improving. Anchored by senior Giovanni Munoz’ (‘22) two hits including a clutch RBI triple, they were able to drive in three runs in the sixth inning. Munoz was asked what this win meant for the team moving forward, “This win set the tempo. Going into one of our toughest series, it’s good to get a win”. The Falcons are heading into their first league series against a solid Rio Americano Raider team. With the Capital Athletic League being so competitive this year, this series has been circled on many CB players calendars since the beginning of the season.
Moving forward, CB is more excited than ever to start league play against Rio. The first game of this series is at home on Monday 3/14 at 4:15. Falcons First!!
