The Lady Falcons wrapped up the final week of their regular season with a senior celebration, a breakthrough varsity victory for a doubles team, and an undefeated season for one player.
On Tuesday, the girls hosted Vista Del Lago in what they knew would be a tough battle. Mae Steenhausen ’25 dominated her match and won 6-2, 6-1 to finish the league season with a 5-1 singles record. Malia Scullary ’23 used an aggressive approach game to frustrate her opponent on her way to a 6-1, 6-2 win. While the pair of singles wins were convincing, the Falcons fell to one of the toughest squads in the Capital Athletic League (CAL) this year, 7-2.
When the last home match ended, the party began as the team celebrated the five seniors on the squad this year. Co-captain Sophia Garcia ’23 who was joined by Ashley Ancog ’23, Graciela Diaz ’23, Alessandra Salvini ’23, and Scullary ’23 all joined the team as freshman and have been a part of two CAL championships and countless memories.
“Our seniors really led the way this season with their play on the court, their teamwork, as well as their support and encouragement for one another,” said head coach Dustin Wagner. “These five girls exemplify what it means to be a Christian Brothers student-athlete.”
The girls were back on the court on Thursday, where they were in control from the first serve at El Camino. The match of the day was on the singles side, where Scullary ’23 closed out the last regular season match of her senior year with an impressive 6-4, 6-2 win to complete an undefeated league season!
On the singles side, co-captain Gianna Cavaletto ’24 (6-3, 6-2), Salvini ’23 (6-1, 6-1) and Diaz ’23 (6-2, 6-0) all easily won their matches. The doubles teams of Courtney Chin ’25 and Sofia Jordana ’24 (6-2, 6-1) as well as Nicole Archer ’24 and Natalya Negorni ’24 (6-0, 6-0) made quick work of the competition, while Taylor Pagano ’24 and Celsey Drew ’26 scored their first ever varsity victory.
Christian Brothers finished with a 5-5 overall record, and 4-4 in league play. The girls will head to Gold River this week for the CAL Singles and Doubles Tournaments on Tuesday and Thursday.
Let’s go Falcons!
