Today, our Christian Brothers Falcons faced off against the Casa Roble High School Rams in a non-league game. This was CB’s first game since their last win against Sac High, whereas this was Casa’s second game this week following a win against Rio Americano yesterday(3/30). It was bound to be a good one from the start, both teams looking to extend their winning streaks and gain momentum as the season progresses.
Amid what felt like a baseball field planted in the middle of a farm, the first pitch of the game was put into play by Giovanni Munoz(‘22). Although it was an out, it gave CB’s offense a spark and a sense of confidence that they were able to hit off of the pitcher. However, no true offensive rhythm ever came for the Falcons. On defense though, Jake Tandy(‘22) dominated. With over 15 strikeouts (16 to be exact), it seemed like he was handing out free strikeouts left and right. Not only that, but he also added to the Falcon’s hit total by knocking two in play and getting on both times. Despite an amazing game from Tandy, the Falcons weren’t able to pull out a win. The Rams had a big 4th inning where they knocked in three runs, took the lead, and never looked back. CB didn’t go down without a fight as they scored one run in the top of the 7th. After that, not much preceded, and Casa was able to walk out of the game with a 3-1 win.
This loss put the Falcons back below .500(5-6), but given it wasn’t a league game it didn’t hurt AS bad. However, there’s still a feeling of belief amid the tough loss. Looking ahead, CB is set to play in the Falcon Classic, a tournament they host every year. They’re opening game is against Vanden whose ranked the number one team in the section. That doesn’t effect any of the players mindsets however, as they are looking to get back in that win column and gain much needed momentum into their final push for the league title.
